Human bodies have the ability to heal themselves in a state of safety and security. This is reflected in both modern neuroscience (for example, the parasympathetic ‘rest-and-digest’ state) and ancient wisdom traditions. When the nervous system feels safe, the body naturally shifts from protection to restoration.
Safety = Parasympathetic activation = Healing state
Trauma, stress, or threat lock us into ‘fight/flight/freeze’ – where healing is delayed or blocked
A healer is someone who holds this space for you. The healer creates coherence through presence, stillness, and deep listening. She holds non-judgmental, accepting, loving awareness; and offers energetic regulation, helping your system entrain to peace. A healer is not the source of healing but rather a mirror and space-holder for your inner healer to awaken.
Healing is a passive, receptive process; a state of flow and acceptance. This reflects the yin aspect of healing; not forcing, but allowing. In this space; breath slows, tension melts, emotions surface and move, and awareness deepens. It’s not about doing more, but about surrendering more fully into what already wants to unwind.
Using the breath as a tool, you can transmute the energy through your heart space. Use your Will (or desire, intention, imagination) to move dense energies and lower emotions which you can feel in different parts of your body, to a green light in your heart-space. You can imagine this green light being there, or sometimes you can feel it. It depends if you can ‘see’ energy, less commonly in the physical, or more commonly, in your minds eye, your ‘imagination’. Lots of people cannot visualise things, so you may find that you cannot see a green light, but instead you can feel it or you may juts ‘know’ it’s there. This is powerful inner alchemy.
Here’s a practice you can try:
Breath-Heart Transmutation
- Find stillness. Sit or lie down. Ground yourself. You can use your own techniques, or you can visualise, imagine or feel roots growing out of the soles of your feet or the base of your spine, deep into the heart of the Earth.
- Set your intention. ‘I allow lower, dense energy to return to the heart-space for healing and integration.’ or ‘I move dense energies into a green light in my heart-space, where they are transmuted into positive loving awareness’.
- Focus on your breath. Inhale deeply into your belly. Exhale slowly, longer than the inhale.
- Feel any dense energy. You may feel this energy as uncomfortable or heavy — emotion, memory, or tension. Sometimes this can be felt in your lower belly, but you may also feel it in other parts of your body. Trust your intuition. If you don’t feel anything, that’s ok.
- With each breath, move that dense energy toward your heart centre – the space in the centre of your chest. If you can’t feel this happening, just breath and trust yourself.
- Visualize (or feel) the heart glowing green. The colour of the heart chakra (Anahata). See it as luminous, alive, and deeply intelligent. If you can see colours and energies, you can see this energy as a brilliant green light in your heart-space. If like me, you are predominantly ‘felt-sense’, you may not be able to see it, but you may be able to feel it as a radiance in your chest. If you don’t see or feel anything – that’s ok – you can use your imagination. Trust this this is happening, even if you don’t perceive it.
- Let the heart transform it. Don’t force – just allow. The breath and your Will/intention are enough.
Repeat until you feel a shift – even a small one.
And why does this work? The breath regulates the nervous system and anchors awareness. You Will or intention gives direction and focus to energy to the heart centre – which is the seat of compassion, integration, and coherence – it’s a powerful transmuter.
